Chad le Clos overjoyed to beat "hero" Michael Phelps

Le Clos delighted with "dream" victory

Chad le Clos has revealed his excitement at winning gold in the 200m butterfly ahead of his "hero" Michael Phelps.

The South African edged out the 14-time Olympic gold medalist to record the victory by a fraction of a second and has admitted that he just wanted to make the final.

Le Clos told BBC Sport: "That's been my dream, ever since I was a little boy. Michael is my hero.

"I just wanted to race in the final and now I've won it. I can't believe it, I really can't."

Le Clos adds his Olympic gold to the Commonwealth title he received in Delhi two years ago.
