Great Britain's Liam Tancock seventh in 50m backstroke final

World record holder Liam Tancock has finished seventh in the 50m backstroke final at the World Swimming Championships in Russia.

The British swimmer was competing in the final of the event for the fifth time in his career, having previously won gold twice, but he finished 0.19 seconds off a spot on the podium this evening.

Defending champion Camille Lacourt of France claimed victory, finishing in 24.23 seconds, while America's Matt Grevers took silver.

Australia's Mitch Larkin, who won gold in the 100m and 200m backstroke earlier this week, narrowly missed out on the bronze, finishing just 0.01 seconds behind compatriot Ben Treffers.
