Great Britain's Liam Tancock reaches 50m backstroke final

World record holder Liam Tancock is through to the final of the men's 50m backstroke at the World Swimming Championships in Russia.

World record holder Liam Tancock has booked a place in the final of the 50m backstroke at the World Swimming Championships in Russia.

The 30-year-old Briton, who won this event in 2009 and 2011, was third in his semi-final, setting the fifth-fastest time overall.

Defending champion Camille Lacourt of France was quickest overall with a time of 24.27, just 0.23 seconds outside Tancock's record.

Tancock won the bronze medal in the 50 backstroke at last year's Commonwealth Games.
