Liam Tancock eases into 50m backstroke semi-finals

Great Britain's Liam Tancock is through to the semi-finals in the 50m backstroke event at the World Swimming Championships in Russia.

Liam Tancock has cruised into the 50m backstroke semi-finals at the World Swimming Championships in Russia.

The Briton, who is a two-time world champion at the distance, finished third in his heat to go through with the sixth-fastest time of the morning.

He was less than half a second behind France's Camille Lacourt, who topped the timesheets after completing the distance in 24.56s.

American Matt Grevers was second, just ahead of Australian duo Ben Treffers and Mitch Larkin.
