The 25-year-old, who is the Commonwealth champion in this event, finished third in her semi-final in a time of 24.50.

Defending champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands, who has a silver medal from the women's 4x100m freestyle, won the first of the two semi-finals.

However, the quickest time came in the second semi-final, which was won by Australia's Cate Campbell in 24.22 seconds, putting her ahead of Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom and 100m champion Bronte Campbell.
