Kindred sets new Paralympic record

Great Britain's Nyree Kindred has set a new Paralympic record in the women's 100m S6 backstroke heat at the Aquatics Centre.

The Welsh swimmer, who has racked up nine medals in previous Paralympic Games, started off well in the opening heat and managed to clinch a time of 1:27.96.

The Brit, who did not appear completely content with her time, was under pressure in the final stretch by Mirjam de Koning-Peper of the Netherlands, who finished with a time of 1:29.86.

China's Lu Dong set the fastest time of 1:28.18 in the first heat of the women's 100m backstroke.
