Great Britain's James Guy "over the moon" with 400m freestyle silver in Kazan

James Guy admits that he is "over the moon" to have won Great Britain's first medal of the World Championships in Kazan.

James Guy has expressed his delight after winning Great Britain's first medal of the World Championships in Kazan on day one.

The 19-year-old set a new British record to finish the final in the silver-medal position with a time of 3:43.75.

China's Sun Yang finished just over a second quicker than his opponent to take gold.

"Everyone wants to win obviously but I can't be happier to win a medal at the World Championships - I'm over the moon with that one," swimming-org quotes Guy as saying.

"I tried to race that from the start and back-end it. Sun Yang is a distance swimmer so he has more endurance than I do so my best chance was to go out hard and try and hold on."

GB's Jazz Carlin narrowly missed out on a spot on the podium on Sunday in the women's 400m freestyle final.
