Team GB's Adam Brown crashes out of 50m freestyle

Team GB's Adam Brown has fallen at the final hurdle in the men's 50m freestyle at the Olympic Games.

Brown was off the pace in his heat, finishing more than a second behind winner George Richard Bovell of Trinidad and Tobago.

His time of 22.39s was only enough for an overall 20th place, while Bovell went through as the fastest qualifier.

World record holder Cesar Cielo won the final heat despite stiff competition from his compatriot Bruno Fratus, progressing as the second-fastest qualifier on 21.80s.

The highly-rated James Magnussen of Australia also made this evening's semi-finals with a time of 22.11s.
