Great Britain's Thomas Fannon progresses in pool

British swimmer Thomas Fannon advances in the 50m men's freestyle heats in Baku, but compatriot Daniel Speers misses out.

Team GB enjoyed mixed success in the men's 50m freestyle heats as Thomas Fannon progressed but Daniel Speers was eliminated at the Baku Aquatics Centre this morning.

Sixteen-year-old Fannon, who took silver in the 50m freestyle at the 2015 British Championships, recorded a time of 23:26s in heat seven to advance to the next stage of the competition.

However, his 18-year-old Great Britain teammate Speers failed to qualify with his effort of 23:62s in heat six.

The fastest qualifying time was recorded by Israel's Ziv Kalontarov, who swam alongside Speers in heat six, with a new Games record of 22.62s.
