Team GB in mix after 200m breaststroke heats in Baku

Team GB's Layla Black and Georgia Coates reach the 200m breaststroke semi-finals, meaning that Abbie Wood and Emma Cain narrowly miss out.

Team GB occupied four of the top six spots during the women's 200m breaststroke qualifying in Baku this morning, but only Layla Black and Georgia Coates made the semi-finals.

No more than two swimmers from one nation can reach the semis, meaning that it was heartbreak for Abbie Wood and Emma Cain, who narrowly missed out.

Black clocked a time of 2:28.71 in the fourth heat to qualify second overall, while Coates (2:28.75) was just behind in third.

Wood, who won gold in the 400m individual medley yesterday, and Cain finished fifth and sixth overall in qualifying, after times of 2:29.03 and 2:29.82 respectively.

The British pair of Wood and Cain may be battling for silver this afternoon, as Russia's Maria Astashkina (2:25.54) finished more than three seconds ahead of the pack.
