Phelps makes winning return to pool

Michael Phelps has marked his return from a drink-driving ban by winning the 100m butterfly at the Arena Pro Swim Series in Mesa, Arizona.

The American, who was suspended for six months, won the heats with a time of 52.92 seconds before edging out compatriot Ryan Lochte in the final with a time of 52.38 seconds.

Lochte had to settle for second place, finishing the race in 53.11 seconds.

"Being the first race back, I think it's okay, probably some things to fix," Phelps told reporters. "But I think it's a good starting point. I'm looking forward on more to come."

Phelps is also competing in the upcoming 100m backstroke, 400m freestyle, 200m individual medley, and 100m freestyle at Mesa.
