Ruta Meilutyte breaks 100m breaststroke record

Lithuania's Ruta Meilutyte has broken the European record in women's 100m breaststroke during the Olympic Games semi-final.

The 15-year-old stormed into the final with a time of 1:05.21 in the second heat to edge out American favourite Rebecca Soni.

Soni's compatriot Breeja Larson also qualified for the last eight with a time of 1:06.70. Other finalists include Iuliia Efimova of Russia and Satomi Suzuki of Japan.

Great Britain's Kate Haywood and Siobhan-Marie O'Connor bowed out during the first heats earlier today.

The women's 100m breaststroke final takes place tomorrow evening (July 30).
