Fran Halsall wins 50m backstroke gold

Britain's Fran Halsall beats compatriot Georgia Davis by 0.01 seconds to claim gold in the final of the 50m backstroke at the European Championships in Berlin.

Britain's Fran Halsall has won gold in the 50m backstroke final at the European Championships in Berlin this afternoon.

The 24-year-old, who already has a gold and bronze at this meet, beat compatriot Georgia Davies by 0.01 seconds, swimming the single length-event in 27.81 seconds.

Denmark's Mie Ostergaard Nielsen, who won gold in the 100m event earlier this week, completed the top three to secure the bronze medal.

Britain have now won 18 medals at the championships.
