Amy Smith pleased to have "job done" by reaching 50m freestyle semi-final

Amy Smith insists that she wanted to conserve energy and just get the "job done" after qualifying for the 50m freestyle semi-finals.

Team England's Amy Smith believes that she approached her 50m freestyle heat in the right way as she prepares for tonight's semi-final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 27-year-old finished third in this morning's heat, while her teammate Fran Halsall set a new Commonwealth record of 24.31s.

"It was job done this morning," Smith told reporters. "It was always the case of conserving a little bit of energy if you could and just trying to make it through the rounds and be ready for tonight."

Smith was the sixth fastest out of 16 qualifiers for the semi-final.
