Former champion Judd Trump is out of the World Snooker Championship after losing his first-round encounter Anthony McGill.

Anthony McGill has caused the biggest upset of the 2023 World Championship by recording a 10-6 victory over Judd Trump.

While the 2019 winner was fancied to progress deep into the competition, he had been handed arguably the toughest draw with McGill a former semi-finalist.

When Trump went 2-0 ahead at the start of Tuesday's afternoon session, there was every expectation that he would kick on and book his spot in the last 16.

Instead, McGill took 10 of the next 14 frames to post another impressive win at the Crucible, reaching at least the second round for the fourth successive year.

Upon the resumption on Wednesday, Trump took the opening two frames to get back to 6-5, and there was a feeling that McGill was hanging on when Trump comfortably took the 13th frame to get back to 7-6.

However, Trump would accumulate just 13 points during the following three frames, McGill posting a 69 break to go 8-6 ahead before building unassailable leads in the next two frames to seal his route through to the last 16.

The Scot will now square off against Jack Lisowski, who was able to withstand a fightback from Thailand's Noppon Saengkham to earn a 10-7 triumph.

Earlier in the day, Kyren Wilson became just the ninth player to hit a Crucible 147 on his way to building a 6-3 advantage over Ryan Day.
