Roundup: Ding shock first-round casualty at Crucible

World number three Ding Junhui has been knocked out of the 2014 World Championship after suffering a first-round defeat to Crucible debutant Michael Wasley.

Wasley, who is ranked 72 places below the Chinese, came from 6-3 down to force a deciding frame with a break of 103, and eventually won the match 10-9.

Elsewhere on Monday evening, former runner-up Mark Selby avoided a surprise loss of his own by holding off a comeback from Michael White to claim a 10-9 victory and set up a tie with Ali Carter.

Joe Perry is also through to the next stage after claiming six frames in a row to down Jamie Burnett, who admitted after his elimination that he is 'no longer bothered' with the game of snooker.

Four-time world champion John Higgins will need to turn around a 6-3 deficit on Tuesday to overcome fellow Scot Alan McManus, while 11th seed Ricky Walden leads Kyren Wilson by the same scoreline.
