Ronnie O'Sullivan powers into World Grand Prix last 16

Ronnie O'Sullivan has started the defence of his World Grand Prix title with a 4-0 victory over Barry Hawkins.

The seven-time world champion bowed out at the quarter-final stage of last week's Masters, but he put that disappointment behind him to ruthlessly dispatch the 12th seed.

Having opened the match with a 108 break, the 47-year-old would proceed to make three half-centuries on the way to breezing into the next round.

O'Sullivan will next face Noppon Saengkham after the Thailand representative produced a clinical performance of his own in beating Mark Selby by a 4-1 scoreline.

The recently-crowned English Open champion was outplayed by the 28th seed, who recorded 122 and 104 breaks on the way to setting up a showdown with O'Sullivan.

Ding Junhui was another notable winner on Tuesday as he whitewashed Masters semi-finalist Stuart Bingham in the afternoon session.

Mark Williams will be his next opponent after the Masters finalist eased past Jamie Jones by a 4-1 scoreline in their all-Welsh battle.

Ryan Day, the second seed based on the yearly rolling rankings, overcame the challenge of Ricky Walden, prevailing 4-1, while Masters champion Judd Trump got the better of Hossein Vafaei by a 4-2 scoreline.

In the other game of the day, Joe O'Connor progressed past Lyu Haotian by the same score to set up a clash with top seed Mark Allen.
