Ding Junhui becomes world number one

China's Ding Junhui moves to the top of the world snooker rankings, despite his early exit from the UK Championship last week.

Ding Junhui has moved to the top of the world snooker rankings, becoming just the 11th player to earn the status since they were introduced in 1976.

The Chinese player suffered an early exit at last week's UK Championship but the five titles that he won last season have aided his rise to the top of the game.

The 27-year-old replaces world champion Mark Selby in the number one position after the Leicester potter also suffered a shock defeat in the opening stages in York.

The updated standings also have Ronnie O'Sullivan moving up to third place after he won his fifth UK crown against Judd Trump.
