Peter Wilson clinches gold in double trap shooting

Wilson wins gold in double trap shooting

Peter Wilson has added to Great Britain's gold medal tally with a victory in the men's double trap shooting with a score of 188.

Russia's Vitaly Fokeev finished fourth in qualification but was the main danger to Wilson, who topped the qualification rankings, ahead of the final.

The Dorset-born shooter started off well by banging two out of two in the opening round and he went from strength to strength as he extended his lead to 147, while Vasily Mosin of Russia and Kuwaiti Fehaid Aldeehani sat with a 144.

Wilson slipped slightly on the 161 after missing one, which dropped his lead from three to two. Nerves began to creep on the 28-year-old, who then dropped a two-shot lead with just five shots to go.

Despite his slight slump, the Brit regained composure and fired to victory with Hakan Dahlby for Sweden claiming silver and Mosin taking home the bronze after a shoot-off.
