Chinese shooter Siling Yi has won the first gold medal of the 2012 Olympic Games with 502.9 points in the women's 10m air rifle.
Poland's Sylwia Bogacka won in qualifying but the Chinese won gold in what was for the most part a straight battle between the pair, forcing Bogacka to settle for silver.
Bronze medallist Dan Yu made a late fight for the top and almost took silver at the death, but Bogacka shot an excellent 10.8 to fend off the challenge.
The top three in the end were comfortably ahead of reigning champion Katerina Emmons of the Czech Republic.
The result means China, who won in Beijing, take an early lead in the medal table with a gold and a bronze.
