Result: Great Britain's Giles Scott wins gold in Finn class at Rio Olympics

Giles Scott claims a fifth consecutive gold for Great Britain in the Finn class at the Rio Olympics.

Great Britain's Giles Scott has won the gold medal in the Finn class at the Rio Olympics.

The 29-year-old was already guaranteed the top prize following Sunday's event, and went into today's medal race knowing that nothing could knock him off the top of the podium.

Official confirmation did not arrive until the end of the final race, though, as Scott added Olympic gold to his four world titles in the event.

Scott went into the event as favourite having been forced to live in the shadows of Sir Ben Ainslie four years ago as the latter won his third consecutive Olympic gold.

Scott's triumph makes it five gold medals in a row for Team GB in the Finn class, while Slovenia's Vasilij Zbogar and USA's Caleb Paine won silver and bronze respectively.
