Helena Lucas secures gold for Great Britain in single-person keelboat 2.4mR

Lucas wins gold after cancellation

Great Britain's Helena Lucas has snatched a gold medal in the single-person keelboat 2.4mR after organisers were forced to cancel today's race.

Lucas, who was the only woman competing in the 16-boat fleet, was unable to finish off her successful campaign after the race was called off due to the lack of wind.

The 37-year-old, who has picked up ParalympicsGB's first gold in the sailing event, ended the penultimate race nine points ahead of Germany's Heiko Kroger, who has taken silver.

The British Paralympian recorded an eighth and fifth yesterday to put her in a strong position, which after today's cancellation has guaranteed her the top honour.
