Toulon score eight tries as they hammer Ulster

Toulon thrash Ulster

Toulon have booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the European Rugby Champions Cup courtesy of a 60-22 win over Ulster in Pool Three.

The hosts made a perfect start as fly-half Nicolas Sanchez scored an early try after he burst through the Ulster defence.

However, the Irish side hit back when Paddy Jackson crossed over in the corner, before Mike McComish scrambled the ball over the line from close range.

Toulon scored two quick tries just as the home fans began to panic, as Bryan Habana and Mathieu Bastareaud crossed to send them into a 17-point lead at the break.

After half time Toulon added to their lead when experienced forward Martin Castrogiovanni held off several challenges to crash the ball over the line in the corner.

The French side then sensed blood as they added three further tries through Mamuka Gorgodze and a brace for Steffon Armitage.

Ulster showed some resilience and scored two late tries through Jared Payne and McComish, before Armitage completed his hat-trick to seal the win.
