Ireland's Paul O'Connell named RBS Six Nations Player of the Championship

O'Connell wins Six Nations player gong

Ireland captain Paul O'Connell has been named the RBS Player of the Championship after lifting the Six Nations trophy last weekend.

The 35-year-old received 26% of the public vote to take home the gong, while Wales star Alun-Wyn Jones came second out from a 12-man shortlist with 19%.

"I'm delighted to receive the RBS Player of the Championship Trophy," said O'Connell. "When you see the names that have gone before, you realise what a great honour it is. I'm very grateful for all the supporters who voted for me."

Just 0.9% of the votes separated third-placed Ireland's Robbie Henshaw and Wales's Dan Biggar.
