Saracens prop Matt Stevens insists that he does not regret retiring from international rugby with England.

Saracens prop Matt Stevens has insisted that he does not regret calling time on his England career.

The 30-year-old, who retired from international Test rugby last summer, was a surprise inclusion when he was recently named in the British and Irish Lions squad for the upcoming tour of Australia.

"Any international player when they retire has second thoughts and it was the most difficult rugby decision I have ever made," Stevens is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"But it was the right choice at the time. Obviously it has given me the chance to play week in, week out for Saracens and has got me in contention for this trip."

Stevens's only previous call-up for the Lions came back in 2005.
