Leicester stun Sale with late comeback

A late try from Julian Salvi snatched a dramatic victory for the Leicester Tigers in this afternoon's Aviva Premiership match against the Sale Sharks.

Chris Cusiter and Seremaia Bai went over for either team in the opening 20 minutes, but both Danny Cipriani and Freddie Burns failed to convert for the extra two points.

Cipriani was successful with his first penalty in the 18th minute to put the home side ahead, but their lead was brief as Mathew Tait scored Leicester's second try of the contest just before the half-hour mark.

The final 10 minutes of the first half was extremely entertaining as Sale scored two converted tries through Will Addison and Nathan Hines, as well as a Cipriani penalty, either side of a Burns penalty to give the home side a 10-point lead at the interval.

Sale carried that momentum into the second half, with Sam Tuitupou going over four minutes after the break to put the Sharks 15 up.

That would be the home side's last dent on the scoreboard, though, as Leicester scored 17 unanswered points to steal the win.

Miles Benjamin's 57th-minute try brought the deficit back to single figures and after Owen Williams's penalty, just one score separated the two sides.

Sharks winger Will Addison was sent to the sin bin with five minutes remaining and the Tigers made the extra man count in the 78th minute when Salvi went over to level the scores before Williams made no mistake with the kick.

The Tigers have now won 10 games in a row against Sale and leapfrog the Sharks with victory.
