Newcastle Falcons narrowly beat Sale Sharks

Newcastle Falcons secure their first win of the Aviva Premiership season with a 15-14 win over Sale Sharks this evening.

Newcastle Falcons have secured their first win since returning to the Aviva Premiership, beating Sale Sharks by a single point.

Nick MacLeod kicked the home side to an early lead, before Daniel Braid scored the only try of the match while Dominic Barrow was in the sin bin.

Phil Godman added two penalties late in the half, leaving Newcastle just two points down at half time.

The fly-half briefly gave the Falcons the lead at the start of the second half, but MacLeod was able to restore the hosts' advantage 10 minutes later.

Rory Clegg replaced Godman late on and was able to add three more points for the newly-promoted side, giving them a one-point lead.
