Sale Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond has praised his side's battling spirit following Friday's Aviva Premiership win over Exeter Chiefs.

The league's bottom-placed team fought back from 5-16 down at Edgeley Park to earn their third victory of the season with a 21-16 triumph.

"The lads showed true spirit again, but it was always going to be a really tense game," Diamond told Sky Sports News.

"There's a lot of hard work to do, but we can't bother about other results."

Friday's win has moved the Sharks to within one point of safety.
