Leinster Rugby have claimed that a charge of alleged racism made by Northampton Saints prop Brian Mujati was down to a case of misinterpretation.

Mujati took to Twitter after the friendly clash between the Avivia Premiership and PRO12 teams on Friday to accuse Leinster duo Heinke van der Merwe and Steven Sykes of calling him a "baboon" during scrums.

However, after an internal investigation and an exchange between the clubs, the matter appears to have been settled and Mujati’s tweets have been deleted.

"Following the allegations made by a Northampton Saints player in the aftermath of Friday night's friendly between Leinster Rugby and Northampton Saints, Leinster Rugby acknowledge that there was an exchange during the match between two Leinster players which was misinterpreted," a statement on Leinster Rugby’s website read.

"It was regrettable that any offence was caused. Both clubs have agreed that the matter is now closed and will now focus on preparing for their respective league campaigns."

Both of the top-flight leagues kick off their 2011/12 seasons next weekend.
