Melbourne Rebels full-back James Woodward will miss the next six weeks of the season after injuring a tendon in his finger.

Melbourne Rebels full-back James Woodward has revealed that he will miss at least the next six weeks of the season after injuring a tendon in his finger.

The 22-year-old suffered the injury during pre-season training, but it was expected that he would return next month.

Woodward wrote on his personal Twitter: "Torn the tendon in my finger this morning at training, out for six weeks apparently, op on Thursday #gutted #lifecouldbeworse".

Woodward will therefore miss the opening fixtures of the new Super Rugby campaign.
