This year's Super Rugby season will introduce a new carding system, it has been revealed.
Referees will have the option of using a white card to signal incidents of alleged foul play to the citing commissioner when the identity of the perpetrator is unclear, or the referee is unsure of whether or not to give a red card.
The players are then put 'on report' as the game continues.
"The white card will be helpful in instances where a referee thinks an act of foul play has occurred but is not sure if a red card is warranted, or is unsure of the identity of a player," said SANZAR game manager Lyndon Bray.
"It will also help get to the bottom of instances where a player makes a complaint to a referee who did not see an incident."
This year's Super Rugby season kicks off on February 24.
