McGeechan in temporary charge of Carnegie

Sir Ian McGeechan has taken temporary charge of Yorkshire Carnegie after head coach Tommy McGee left the club via mutual consent.

The former British and Irish Lions coach is currently executive president of the club but will remain in charge of first-team duties until a new coach is installed.

"It's a matter of managing time and getting the right things in place," McGeechan told BBC Radio Leeds. "We want to have a real go for Premiership status next year and we want a coach who has that kind of experience."

McGee only took control of Carnegie in November after then head coach Gary Mercer left.

The club are currently ninth in the Greene King IPA Championship, 10 points outside the playoff places.
