Report: Paul O'Connell out for season

Munster and Ireland lock Paul O'Connell is reportedly unlikely to play again this season as he continues to battle an injured back.

The 33-year-old has played just twice since May after suffering the injury, but it has not yet been confirmed whether he will undergo surgery.

According to Sky Sports News, he will see a specialist in the New Year before a final decision on the treatment process is taken.

O'Connell will definitely miss the Six Nations, but is also considered a major doubt for the Lions' tour of South Africa next summer.
