London Wasps edge close game with Leicester Tigers

Wasps edge close game

London Wasps held on to a slender two-point advantage this afternoon to record their fourth win of the Aviva Premiership season.

Tom Varndell gave Wasps a lead in the second minute, scoring a try against his former club.

Leicester created few chances in the opening half, but two penalties from George Ford kept the Tigers in the match at half-time.

Wasps struggled with their kicking throughout the match, both Nicky Robinson and Elliot Daly missing penalties in the first half, resulting in Lee Thomas being turned to after the break.

Ford had a chance to put Tigers ahead inside the last 10 minutes, but missed the target.

Thomas also missed a late kick which would have given Wasps a five-point cushion in the closing minutes, but Leicester couldn't find the winning move.

Wasps move up to seventh in the Aviva Premiership table, while Leicester remain fifth.
