Wasps prove too strong for Harlequins

Wasps move back up to fourth place in the Aviva Premiership by seeing off Harlequins 37-6 at the Ricoh Arena.

Wasps comfortably defeated Harlequins 37-6 at the Ricoh Arena this afternoon to climb back into fourth place in the Aviva Premiership table.

The hosts, who have not lost a home game in nearly 12 months, made a solid start by racing into a 9-0 advantage inside the opening quarter of the contest.

Andy Goode was the man responsible for the points, successfully kicking a hat-trick of pens to put his side into a strong position.

Although Nick Evans found the sticks himself to cut that deficit somewhat, Tom Varndell crossed over moments later to add the game's first try for Wasps.

Christian Wade burst past two opponents and did well to use his strength before picking out his teammate, who found the chalk to make it 14-3.

Wasps did not have to wait long to double their try count as Elliot Daly cut through the midfield with ease to extend that advantage a little further ahead of the break.

Harlequins had the kicking of Evans to thank when they added three more points to their tally, but that proved to be the end of their scoring.

Dai Young's charges ran away with it following the restart thanks to two penalty tries, the first of which was awarded after a drive was illegally pulled down, which lead to George Robson being shown a yellow.

The visiting side's misery was compounded late on when Jack Clifford was also cautioned, allowing Wasps to push on for their second penalty try and secure a valuable bonus point as a result.

This defeat sees Harlequins end the weekend in eighth place in the Aviva Premiership table.
