Harlequins' Joe Marler hit with two-week ban for kicking Grenoble's Arnaud Heguy

Harlequins prop Joe Marler is banned for two weeks for kicking Grenoble's Arnaud Heguy in last week's European Challenge Cup semi-final.

Harlequins prop Joe Marler has been banned for two weeks after being found guilty of kicking Grenoble's Arnaud Heguy during their European Challenge Cup semi-final last Friday.

The England international was cited after the incident and a disciplinary panel on Wednesday decided that the incident amounted to foul play.

The suspension means that Marler, whose recent ban for verbal abuse was not taken into account, will be eligible to play in the European Challenge Cup final against Montpellier.

A statement from European Professional Club Rugby read: "The [disciplinary] committee found that Marler had committed an act of foul play that warranted a red card. It determined that the offence was at the low end of World Rugby's sanctions and selected four weeks as the appropriate entry point.

"In deciding to disregard the player's recent suspension as it was of an entirely different nature, the committee then reduced the sanction by two weeks - 50% of the entry point - before imposing a suspension of two weeks.

"Marler is free to play on Monday, May 9. Both the player and EPCR have the right to appeal the decision."

The ban will not affect Marler's availability for England's tour of Australia in June.
