Byron McGuigan commits to Exeter Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter admits that he is delighted to see Byron McGuigan pen a new one-year deal at the club.

Byron McGuigan has been rewarded for his work at Exeter Chiefs last season by earning a one-year contract extension at Sandy Park.

The full-back provided cover for the injured Chrysander Botha, quickly settling into place to make 17 appearances in all competitions from November onwards.

Having highlighted his versatility, as well as crossing over three times for the Devon outfit, McGuigan will now remain in place beyond this summer.

Speaking after the deal had been agreed, Exeter head coach Rob Baxter told the club's official website: "Byron has some great qualities. He is a great competitor who really enjoys being at the club.

"He has really bought into all the elements of our culture and work ethic and he is a great teammate and has done well for us every time he has stepped on to a rugby field.

"Sometimes we have put him in some pretty difficult situations. He came to us relatively late and has had to learn a lot quite quickly, but I think he has done really well. All of the qualities he has shown mean we want him to stay around for a bit longer."

The Chiefs narrowly missed out on a place in the Aviva Premiership playoffs last season, finishing behind fourth-placed Saracens on points difference.
