Exeter Chiefs end Northampton Saints LV=Cup hopes

Exeter end Northampton's Cup hopes

Northampton Saints have had their slim chances of reaching the LV=Cup semi-finals ended with a 28-19 defeat at Exeter Chiefs.

Tries from Ben White, Jack Nowell and Watisoni Votu put the hosts in control with 27 minutes on the clock, while a further seven points from the boot of Ignacio Mieres saw them take a 22-0 lead.

The Saints had the final say of the first half as Alex Waller's try got the visitors on the board.

Lee Dickson's converted score on the hour gave Northampton some hope, but two more penalties from Mieres saw Exeter extend their advantage.

Dickson bagged a second try for the away side late on, although it was only a consolation.
