Second-half comeback not enough for Newcastle Falcons

Newcastle Falcons' second-half comeback goes to waste as CA Brive hold on for a narrow victory in their European Challenge Cup clash.

CA Brive have held off a second-half comeback from Newcastle Falcons to register a 23-16 home win in the European Challenge Cup Pool 3.

The hosts were 13-5 in the lead at half time, thanks to two penalties and a try from Thomas Laranjeira.

However, Newcastle came back strongly in the second half and went 16-13 ahead, thanks to a 45th-minute try from Ryan Shortland and two Phil Godman penalties.

Brive did not back down and replied to the visitors' challenge, winning the match thanks to a Venione Voretamaya's converted try.

Newcastle, though, did earn a bonus point and remain on top of Pool 3 after two matches.
