Great Britain have continued their dominance in the men's coxless fours by claiming gold at the Rio Olympics this afternoon.

Team GB had been victorious in the event in every Games since Sydney 2000, and the quartet of Alex Gregory, George Nash, Mohamed Sbihi and Constantine Louloudis continued the tradition to make it five gold medals in a row.

Britain went into the event as favourites but were expected to be challenged all the way by Australia, and that proved to be the case at the Lagoa Stadium.

The two teams were neck and neck for the vast majority of the race, but Britain edged in front over the final 500m as their Australian counterparts were forced to settle for silver.

Italy completed the podium by picking up bronze, finishing more than three seconds behind the Aussies.
