Katherine Grainger, Vicky Thornley named in GB World Championships team

Rowers Katherine Grainger and Vicky Thornley have been included in Great Britain's team for the World Championships in France.

Grainger, who spent two years away from the sport following the London 2012 Olympics, will partner Thornley in the double sculls.

Since Grainger made her competitive return, the pair have earned bronze medals in the European Championships and the World Cup.

"It's never a guarantee, so I was happy to know we were going forward in the doubles to the World Championships," BBC Sport quotes Thornley as saying. "We've had some positive results and know we can improve a lot over the next six weeks, but it's a step on the way to Rio [Olympics]."

The World Championships will run from August 30 to September 3 in Savoie.
