West Bromwich Albion fan thanks supporters for saving him after heart attack

West Bromwich Albion supporter Mark Johnson thanks his fellow fans for helping save his life after he suffered a cardiac arrest while at The Hawthorns.

A West Bromwich Albion fan has expressed his gratitude towards the supporters who helped save his life after he suffered a cardiac arrest during a recent match.

Mark Johnson, 54, was part of the home crowd at The Hawthorns last Monday to witness the Baggies seal a 3-0 win over Chelsea.

Shortly after Chris Brunt scored the third in the second half, Mr Johnson fell ill and needed urgent medical attention.

Heart specialist Russell Davis and doctor Derek Connolly were sat close by and came to the aid of Mr Johnson, who was given seven shocks in the ambulance on the way to Sandwell Hospital.

"I was laid out across the seats whilst Mr Davis did what he had to do, administering CPR, or so I am told," Mr Johnson told the Birmingham Mail. "I owe my life to this man, or to these men.

"My wife [Jeanette] has told me that there was also a nurse at the scene at the ground who was doing a lot of work. I wish I could find out her name to thank her in person. And there are the stewards. There are just so many people to thank I don't want to leave anyone out."

The Baggies fan was at the game with his father Terry, his half brother Liam and family friend Ben Scrocca.
