Dempsey to appear on the 'Late Show'

USA captain Clint Dempsey will appear as a guest on the Late Show with David Letterman on Wednesday evening following his nation's World Cup campaign.

The Seattle Sounders forward and his teammates managed to progress into the knockout rounds of the tournament in Brazil, but failed to reach the quarter-finals following a 2-1 defeat to Belgium.

Millions of fans in the States followed the USA's journey through the tournament and due to the sport's increasing popularity, Dempsey has earned himself a spot on the chatshow at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York.

Dempsey and goalkeeper Tim Howard received a phone call from president Barack Obama following their World Cup exit.
