Roma set up fund to help refugees

Serie A outfit Roma have announced that they will donate more than €500,000 (£365,000) to an initiative set up to help refugees across the world.

Giallorossi president Jim Pallotta has set up a fund called 'Football Cares', which will raise money for charities helping those affected by unrest and conflict worldwide.

Pallotta is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "After seeing the images coming out of Europe and the Middle East, we felt AS Roma had to do more. We welcome that challenge and responsibility."

Roma have made an initial donation of €575,000 (£418,000) to the fund, while Bayern Munich and the International Olympic Committee have also put programs in place to help refugees.
