Spanish club Recreativo de Huelva to be sold for €1

Spanish club Recreativo de Huelva is on the verge of being sold for less than £1.

The oldest football club in Spain, Recreativo de Huelva, is due to be sold in a deal worth just €1.

Debts of €7.6m (£6.79m) threatened to sink the team, but Huelva city council has agreed to write them off to pave the way for buyers Eurosamop to broker an acquisition agreement.

The company has agreed to purchase all of the third-tier club's shares for less than £1, according to the Daily Mail.

Huelva, who play their home games at the 21,600-capacity Estadio Nuevo Colombino, have competed in Spain's regionalised third division since 2015, but were a La Liga outfit several years before that.

The club competed in the top flight between 2006 and 2009, registering one top-10 finish during that time.
