Mark Selby welcomes first child

Former world number one snooker player Mark Selby has become a father for the first time after his wife gave birth to a daughter.

The new arrival had been expected later this month, but Sofia Maria was born a couple of weeks early on Tuesday afternoon.

According to worldsnooker.com, the newborn and mother Vikki, who married Selby in 2011, are both doing well.

Selby had expected to miss the UK Championship later this month in order to be at the birth, but now intends to play at the tournament.
