Pistorius 'cried himself to sleep' in prison

Six-time Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius reportedly sobbed in his jail cell during his first night behind bars for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The 27-year-old was sentenced to five years in prison for the culpable homicide of the South African model, whom he shot dead through a toilet door at his home in Pretoria during the early hours of Valentine's Day last year.

According to South African newspaper The Times, Pistorius's crying "went on and on" until he fell asleep after he was locked into a cell at the Kgosi Mampuru prison on Tuesday.

Pistorius, who claimed that he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder when he fired the shots, could spend 10 months in prison before serving the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
