Paralympic champions reportedly turn down the idea of creating a separate award for them by claiming that they should be regarded as equals to the Olympians.

Great Britain's Paralympic champions have reportedly rejected the suggestion of creating a separate award just for them.

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year award nomination list has included both Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

While some have suggested that the Paralympic stars deserve a separate award, it is understood that the athletes themselves believe that they should be treated equally to the Olympians, according to the Daily Star.

Ellie Simmonds, David Weir and Sarah Storey have all been nominated for the honour, which will be presented to the winner on December 16.
