The BBC reveal the 12 nominees that will compete for votes to become their Sports Personality of the Year for 2012.

A panel has selected 12 British sportsmen and women for the shortlist of this year's BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

The current clear favourite with the bookmakers to claim the coveted award is cyclist Bradley Wiggins, who backed up becoming the first Brit to win the Tour de France by winning Olympic gold at the time-trial event in London.

Also said to be among the favourites is athlete Mo Farah. The 29-year-old was one of the stars of the Games thanks to his gold medals in both the men's 5,000m and 10,000m track races.

Andy Murray's triumphs at the Olympics and US Open in New York have resulted in him being nominated.

Other Olympians to be included are Jessica Ennis, Nicola Adams, Sir Chris Hoy, Ben Ainslie and Katherine Grainger.

Three Paralympians have also been put forward as the achievements of David Weir, Sarah Storey and Ellie Simmonds in London mean that they have been recognised.

The only person to have been included that did not compete at this summer's Games is world number one golfer Rory McIlroy.

The winner of the title will be announced on Sunday, December 16.
