Frank Lampard promises to visit 9/11 memorial in New York

Frank Lampard says that he will "certainly" visit the 9/11 memorial in New York City to pay his respects.

New York City FC midfielder Frank Lampard has vowed to visit the 9/11 memorial at what was once Ground Zero to pay his respects.

The former Chelsea man is keen to make amends for the infamous drinking binge he was involved in with three of his teammates just 24 hours after the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers.

The England international was one of four players fined for allegedly swearing and vomiting in front of US tourists at a Heathrow Airport hotel 13 years ago, and the incident has been raked up following his unveiling as a New York City FC player.

"I categorically did not set out to insult anyone or behave badly in front of the Americans and this is an excellent chance to say that. I'm very sensitive to the issue and the tragedy," the Daily Mail quotes Lampard as saying.

"I was naive and a young boy at the time. I was out on a day I shouldn't have been - I certainly wouldn't do it today. I've tried in the last 13 years at Chelsea to be not just a good footballer, but a good man off the pitch."

Lampard went on to say that he will "certainly" visit the 9/11 memorial.
